Sleepover Party Success!

the Ultimate guide

One of the most exciting things a kid can do is have their friends over for a sleepover. One of the most intimidating things a parent can do is commit to organizing a sleepover party. Not to fear Events by JBK has you covered.

The Ultimate Guide to Sleepover Party Success helps parents create a memorable party by breaking down some of the most critical components.

Please note parents' sleep is not guaranteed!

  1. Plan

Even before you have invited or confirmed the guests, create an outline for how you, and your little, want the event to flow. Think of the party as a story with a beginning, middle and end. Make guests feel welcome and included as soon as they walk in the door. Center the party around a series of activities. Maybe it's a movie, a game, arts and crafts, a meal or D all or all of the above. Create a document that lays out the timing and content of each moment in the event. Once you have this outline, create a list of all the things you will need to execute on this plan. Hope is not a strategy, so make it a plan! That being said, sometimes the most fun activity is sitting around and laughing with friends, so create a flexible agenda.

2. Create a Theme

Sleepover parties make for great birthdays or just because but a theme can tie the event together. From the styling elements to the goodie bags to the activities, a theme is a great way to bring creativity into any party.

3. Communicate

Provide specific arrival and pick-up times. Give guests an idea of what to expect in advance of the party mostly so they can get excited but also so they can plan accordingly and come prepared for the activities if need be. In the process, inquire about specific needs like dietary restrictions. Also, please let guests know if breakfast will be served. The communication doesn't have to be formal. An email or text is fine. Also, make sure to have accurate contact and emergency contact info for every guest.

4. Make Space

Create an inviting, comfortable space where guests can put their things and make themselves at home. A designated space can eliminate the stress of feeling like the party is taking over your entire house. Scan the space to ensure that precious or dangerous items are removed. This may require temporarily moving furniture around but will make for a special space where kids feel safe.

5. RELAX

Shh; this is my secret. Kids feed off our energy, and they feed off the energy of each other. A solid plan going into the event will help ensure the party runs smoothly, and building in a relaxation activity will create a way for kids to calm some of their excitement. Whether it's a 10-minute meditation right before bed and or you ask every child to bring their favorite book and spend a few minutes reading. If your little has a go-to way of relaxing, make sure to incorporate that in the plans. (Links at the bottom to my favorite meditation apps.)
